Casa Celeste
Renovation for short-term rentals
San Siro, Milan IT
2022-2023
The apartment is located on the first floor of a historic IFACP building in the San Siro district, built between 1937 and 1942. Designed by Vincenzo Columbo, the building forms a continuous perimeter with a central void. The apartment sits at the corner, with a floor plan resembling the shape of Milan within its ancient walls.
The project focuses on enhancing the existing structure with a sustainable approach, targeting an up-and-coming area close to infrastructure and parks. The goal is to optimize space, transforming the studio into a one-bedroom unit with minimal alterations. The bathroom and kitchen are redesigned to open directly into the living room, with the vestibule concealing technical elements. Material surfaces, such as exposed cement, combine functionality and design. The bathroom features a full-height mirror and a sink reminiscent of an old holy water font, with 5x15 cm tiles covering the entrance and kitchen.
An existing niche houses a custom bed with built-in headboard and wardrobe, hidden behind a blackout curtain that separates the sleeping area from the rest of the apartment, which is flooded with morning light from the terrace.
